- (oscilación pendular) Occurs when a body is displaced and accelerates toward its home position due to the force of gravity, with the result that it oscillates, or swings, around its rest position. The tangential force results from gravitation and opposes the restoring force, which increases in proportion to the angle of displacement. Friction with the air and internal friction cause the pendulum to lose kinetic energy, so that its amplitude decreases to zero. During pendulum oscillation, energy is repeatedly converted from potential to kinetic energy and vice versa.
- (estado pendular) Media expression in U.S. politics, to refer to those states that do not have a clear candidate in the polls. From swing state, also sometimes referred to as swing state, battleground state or purple state (a mixture of red and blue).
