What does «cinetosis» mean in Spanish?
- Motion sickness that occurs due to a difference between actual and expected motion. Symptoms usually include nausea, vomiting, cold sweats, headache, drowsiness, yawning, loss of appetite, and increased salivation. Rare complications may include dehydration, electrolyte problems, or a tear of the lower esophagus. The cause of motion sickness is actual or perceived motion. This can include anything from car travel, air travel, boat travel, space travel, or a simulation of reality. Risk factors include pregnancy, migraine headaches and Meniere's disease. Diagnosis is based on symptoms. Treatment may include behavioral measures or medications. Behavioral measures include keeping the head still and focusing on the horizon. Three types of medications are helpful: antimuscarinics such as scopolamine, H1 antihistamines such as dimenhydrinate, and amphetamines such as dexamphetamine. However, side effects may limit the use of medications. Some medications used for nausea, such as ondansetron, are ineffective for motion sickness.[2] Some medications used for nausea, such as ondansetron, are ineffective for motion sickness.[2
