What does «voto solemne» mean in Spanish?
- A vow or promise that is made publicly with the formalities of law, which give it greater significance. For example, the vows that follow religious profession (called monastic, religious or canonical vows) are those of poverty, chastity and obedience, which are made when one becomes a priest or professed in an approved order. With these vows one imitates, in the religious aspect, the life of Jesus Christ, according to the evangelical counsels. The religious vows distinguish a religious from a lay person within the Catholic Church. By means of these vows, one seeks access to a spiritual path to salvation through the renunciation of earthly pleasures.
Examples of use in Spanish: "El voto solemne es el que se hace con la solemnidad que prescribe el derecho".
