What does «La Biblia católica» mean in Spanish?
- The biblical canon of the Catholic Church recognizes 73 books as part of Sacred Scripture. It comprises 46 writings for the Old Testament (45 if the Book of Jeremiah and the Book of Lamentations are counted as one), and 27 for the New Testament. Inspiration. The Catholic Church considers that the Holy Scriptures "have God for their author and as such have been given to the Church herself" (Vatican Council). This divine paternity confers on the Bible the character of an inspired book, the word of God. This does not mean that the Bible was given directly by God to men, nor that God dictated it to human secretaries, but that God so influenced its authors that they wished to write, and did write, what He wanted them to write. Although this divine influence left the literary personality of the authors intact, so that their inspired writings reveal their personal characteristics, it was such that it points to God as the principal author of the inspired books.
