What does «infectocontagioso» mean in Spanish?
- Diseases that are infectious and contagious at the same time, such as chickenpox, measles, HIV, bacterial meningitis, diphtheria, influenza, herpes, cholera, among many others. The concept of infectious disease has been replaced in recent years by that of communicable disease, thus including both infectious and parasitic diseases; this is because there are transmissible processes that are not infectious, such as scabies or pediculosis. There are also transmissible agents that may not cause disease in the subject, as is the case of beta-hemolytic streptococcus, which does not necessarily generate rheumatic fever. The infectious patient should be managed differently from other patients because of the possibility of contagion; improper management may expose others to risk, including physicians and nurses. Some degree of isolation of the patient should usually be necessary to prevent transmission of the infectious disease to others. Also, depending on the disease, the use of barriers such as gowns, masks, gloves and hand sanitization is useful.
Examples of use in Spanish: "el cólera es una enfermedad infectocontagiosa".
"en odontología debe haber un manejo adecuado de pacientes infectocontagiosos".
- A person suffering from an infectious disease that is easily transmitted.
Examples of use in Spanish: "el infectocontagioso fue aislado".
- Infectious-infectious period. The stage during which contact with an infected subject is most likely to result in the transmission of the disease.
