What does «reactor nuclear» mean in Spanish?
- A nuclear reactor is a unit or vessel, including associated equipment and material, in which controlled nuclear reactions are produced for various purposes. These reactions generally involve controlled nuclear fission chain reactions with a neutron flux. These purposes may include generating heat for electricity generation, marine propulsion, or heating of industrial plants or other facilities; obtaining nuclear fuel; preparing radioactive isotopes for use in nuclear medicine, industrial testing, or the creation of controlled radiation sources; producing nuclear materials such as plutonium or tritium; or manufacturing temporarily radioactive materials for procedures such as neutron activation analysis. Although there may be some overlap in functions, larger reactors tend to be optimized for a single purpose; part of the design flaws that caused the Chernobyl disaster was that the reactor tried to be equally effective for electric power and plutonium generation.
