What does «paraje» mean in Spanish?

- Geog. A geographic point that may or may not be inhabited, but usually has scattered settlers in a rural area. It is a place to camp or stop when traveling to spend the night or for supplies. In the past they were used especially to provide water and fodder for the travelers' animals. Some places also have a sanctuary or hermitage. Many places are losing population as young people move to the cities. In inhospitable areas it is very common to find places that appear on maps, but are totally uninhabited.
