What does «horópter» mean in Spanish?
- Optical. Straight line drawn through the point where the two optical axes concur, parallel to that which joins the centers of the observer's eyes. In the study of binocular vision, the horopteran curve is the portion of space in which the eyes perceive an image in the corresponding retinal areas, whose points are seen individually. The discovery is attributed to Gerhard Vieth in 1818, although the term was already introduced by François d Aguilon in the second of his six books on optics (Opticorum Libri Sex) in 1613. The portion of space more distal and closer to the circular surface, called the horopter, is perceived as double, since it does not stimulate the corresponding retinal areas. This phenomenon is called "physiological diplopia".
