What does «hidrostato» mean in Spanish?
- Apparatus that allows several people to work underwater, e.g. for founding piers and bridges, and surveying underwater terrain. Also called underwater bell. Its first version was invented in France in 1844 by Payerme and Damiral; it consisted of an ovoid hull made of pallaster, divided into compartments and with thick glass in the walls to let light through.
