What does «hidrobiología» mean in Spanish?
- A science that studies the life of animals and plants that populate waters, especially insofar as their specific biological adaptations are characterized by adaptation to the aquatic habitat. For example, the adaptation of planktonic organisms to floating in free water and the adaptation of aquatic organisms to the spectrum of food or substrate conditions in the respective body of water are the subject of hydrobiology. However, methodological and technical aspects of the ecology of aquatic organisms, e.g. in the context of wastewater treatment, are also described under this term. In most cases, the term includes only the biology of inland water organisms (limnological organisms) and only rarely also that of marine organisms (maritime organisms).
