What does «endecha» mean in Spanish?
- Melancholic, sad and lamenting song, where the author generally laments the death of someone, or for calamities or misfortunes that have occurred. In the case that it is of popular character and arose from the traditional lyric, it is denominated, justly, endecha; whereas if the author is of cultured character it is denominated planto. The endechas have been recorded since biblical times; the book of Lamentations of the prophet Jeremiah is an endecha. However, endechas became more popular in the Middle Ages.

- Metrical combination of four verses of six or seven syllables, generally assonant.
- (endecha endecasílaba o real) That which consists of three lines of verse, usually heptasyllabic, and another hendecasyllabic and assonant with the second.
