What does «diastasis» mean in Spanish?
- In pathology, separation of parts of the body that are normally joined together, such as the separation of certain abdominal muscles during pregnancy (rectus abdominis diastasis), or of adjacent or contiguous bones without fracture or true dislocation.
Examples of use in Spanish: "Como resultado de la lesión, el extremo del hueso puede desprenderse, una variedad de fractura conocida como diastasis".
- In physiology, it is the middle stage of diastole during the cycle of a heartbeat, where the initial passive filling of the heart's ventricles has slowed, but before the atria contract to complete active filling.
- (diastasis rectio o diástasis de rectos abdominales) A space of about 2.7 cm or more between the two sides of the rectus abdominis muscle. The distance between the right and left rectus abdominis muscles is created by stretching of the linea alba, a connective collagen sheath created by the aponeurosis insertions of the transverse abdominis, internal obliques and external obliques. This condition has no associated morbidity or mortality. Rectus abdominis muscle diastasis occurs most frequently in newborns and pregnant women; however, it can occur in any adult woman or man.
- (diástasis sintáctica del pubis) Separation of the normally fused pubic bones, as in dislocation of the bones, without fracture. Separation of the pubic symphysis may occur spontaneously in at least 1 in 800 vaginal deliveries. It is usually seen after delivery and has been associated with forceps delivery, rapid second stage of labor, or severe abduction of the thighs during labor.
