What does «desasimilación» mean in Spanish?
- In biology, another name, already outdated, for catabolism: phase of metabolism constituted by the set of biochemical reactions that disintegrate living matter, therefore they are metabolic processes of degradation. It is the decomposition of complex substances, within an organism, into simpler ones suitable only for excretion, with the release of energy; a normal nutritional process that is the opposite of assimilation.
Examples of use in Spanish: "La desasimilación viene compensada por la asimilación.
- The act or state of ceasing to be or becoming less assimilated or integrated, said particularly of ethnic groups. The reverse process of assimilation.
