What does «cuadrúpedo» mean in Spanish?
- The term for an animal that walks with four limbs. It can also apply to man-made machines (such as the BigDog robot developed by NASA in 2005). Quadrupeds are animals that walk on four limbs. Most tetrapods (animals with four legs) are quadrupeds. Some of these, such as bears and apes, can walk on two limbs on occasion. Most quadrupeds are vertebrate animals. Birds, humans, insects, crustaceans and snakes are not quadrupeds; however, there are some exceptions, e.g., the praying mantis is quadrupedal.

- Sport. Type of sporting exercise where the athlete must get on all fours, there are several variations. The right gluteus muscle is squeezed and the leg is lifted to hip height.
