What does «Aleluya» mean in Spanish?
- A Hebrew word used by the Church as a sign of jubilation and praise, especially at Passover time. Many of David's psalms are headed by this word as a title. Nothing could be more logical if one takes into account the sense of praise of these great hymns, used by the Hebrews in the great solemnities of the synagogue, especially on the occasion of the Passover. Among us, the word has come to have other meanings that more or less recall its original meaning. Thus, the printed stamps that are thrown at the passing of the processions are called aleluyas. Also the series of prints, with an explanation of their subject, in the form of a half sheet or a whole sheet.
