What does «varbasco» mean in Spanish?
- Verbasco, mullein, plant. Perennial plant of the scrofulariaceae family, erect stem covered with thick and ashy tassel, whitish leaves, thick and hairy, flowers in spikes, yellow corolla, and capsular fruit. The decoction of its flowers has been used in medicine against consumption. From this word comes enverbascar or envarbascar, which is to introduce crushed leaves of this plant in the water so that, through the powerful alkaloids (relaxing action) the fish are stunned and it may be easier to catch them.
