What does «semiárido» mean in Spanish?
- The climate of the regions near a desert. It is a dry climate where annual rainfall is between 500 and 800 mm. Its vegetation is characterized by shrubs and steppes that lose their leaves in the driest periods. The best known biomes of semi-arid regions are the province of La Pampa in Argentina, the Chihuahuan Desert of Mexico and the United States, the steppes of Kazakhstan, the Australian outback, the sertão of the Brazilian Northeast, the Mediterranean scrubland in southeastern Spain and the Ebro Valley, the Fourth Region in Chile, among others.
