What does «puca» mean in Spanish?
- Red-bearded, bearded.
♦ Used in: Ecuador - Red color, colorado.
- Grain, seed.
- Necklace made of snails or other materials that is used attached to the neck.
♦ Used in: Puerto Rico - (Huayra Puca) Mythical aboriginal character. In Quechua it means "red wind". Some associate it with the zonda wind.
- (Puca Pucara) Site of military ruins about 7 km from Cusco in. In Quechua it means "red fortress". This fort is composed of large walls, terraces and stairs and was part of the defense of Cusco in particular and the Inca Empire in general. The name probably comes from the red color of the rocks at sunset. Puca Pucara is an example of military architecture that also functioned as an administrative center.
♦ Used in: Peru - (Montaña de Puca) Mountain range of Honduras. Its highest peak is also called puca and reaches 2,234 meters above sea level. This mountain gives its name to the Sierra de Puca, border line between the departments of Lempira and Santa Barbara.
