What does «Parcas» mean in Spanish?
- In Roman Mythology, each of the three sister deities, Cloto, Lachesis and Atropos, who respectively spun, reeled and cut the thread of life of both gods and humans. Their Greek equivalent was the Moirai. According to the writer Jacques Lacarrière, "they are the symbol of the evolution of the universe, of the necessary change that orders the rhythms of life and imposes the existence and fatality of death". The reapers controlled the metaphorical thread of the life of every mortal and immortal from birth to death. Even the gods feared them, and by some sources Jupiter was also subject to their power.
