What does «in partibus» mean in Spanish?
- (in partibus o in partibus infidelium, abreviado i.p.i.) Latin expression that literally means "in countries of infidels". Originally it was applied to the see or bishop that was designated to a non-Christian country or territory (which were under Muslim domination), where he does not reside and, therefore, does not exercise. In this case it was called bishop in partibus. The Sacred Congregation of Propaganda, in its circular of March 5, 1882, abolished the expression in partibus infidelium.
