What does «estribillo» mean in Spanish?
- Verse or lines that are repeated at the end of each stanza in poems and songs. It is a poetic device where verses are repeated; usually there is a refrain at the beginning of the composition that is repeated at the end of each stanza. Traditionally the poems with refrain are the zéjel, the letrilla and the villancico, sometimes the romance and other popular poetry.
- In music, the refrain is the verse that is repeated several times in the composition; it is probably the most remembered part of a song. It is also often called "chorus" in music. A song usually consists of several verses and a chorus that is repeated several times, perhaps with some slight variations.
Examples of use in Spanish: "El estribillo de esta canción se me metió en la cabeza, no paro de cantarlo".
- What a person repeats constantly. A phrase that is repeated out of habit. Catchphrase.
Examples of use in Spanish: "¡Me tienes harto con ese estribillo tuyo que dices todo el tiempo!"
