What does «epidermis» mean in Spanish?
- The epithelial membrane that envelops the body of animals. In the case of invertebrates it is formed by a single layer of cells, whereas in vertebrates there are numerous layers of superimposed cells that cover the dermis. In humans, its thickness ranges from 0.1 mm on the eyelids to a maximum of 1.5 mm on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
