What does «electricidad positiva» mean in Spanish?
- The electricity acquired by glass rubbed with silk, wool or fur. Also called vitreous or glass electricity. In the eighteenth century it was proposed that bodies have a certain amount of electrical fluid that can be transferred from one to another if they rub against each other. All bodies are electrified by rubbing; both the rubbed and the rubbing body become electrically charged, but one remains positively charged and the other equally negatively charged. This is because the positively charged body has lost electrons which are captured by the negatively charged body.
Examples of use in Spanish: "En las pilas voltaicas, la superficie de la placa de cobre o de carbón se cargan de electricidad vítrea o positiva".
