What does «defecto refractivo» mean in Spanish?
- It is a pathology that occurs when the image on the retina of the eye is not properly focused. This alteration produces blurred vision that is usually corrected with the use of glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery. The three most common refractive errors or defects are: myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. In general, refractive error is due to an irregular shape of the eye that causes light not to focus on the correct area of the retina.
Examples of use in Spanish: "me haré una prueba de visión para saber si tengo un defecto refractivo".
