What does «Crítica» mean in Spanish?
- In Art and Literature, judgment or appraisal of a work. Sometimes criticism is limited to qualifying the work as good or bad according to the personal criterion of the judge, as happens in a considerable part of the journalistic criticism of books, theater and music. This kind of criticism is often considered to be guided by the prurience of pointing out faults and defects and, in fact, it degenerates into this if the critic does not try to support his judgments on bases other than the pleasant or unpleasant impression that the work criticized may have produced in his mind. Opposed to this system is the more appreciative system of the critic who tries to apply his sense of beauty to a given work. There is another method in which the critic tries to show the application to works of art of general systems of ideas, whether philosophical, religious or political. To such a genre of criticism belong, for example, the so-called Freudian and Marxist interpretations of Art.
