What does «covalencia» mean in Spanish?
- A type of bond in which atoms are linked by common electron pairs. A covalent bond, also called a molecular bond, is a chemical bond that involves the sharing of pairs of electrons between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms when they share electrons is known as a covalent bond. For many molecules, the sharing of electrons allows each atom to achieve the equivalent of a complete outer shell, corresponding to a stable electronic configuration. The term covalent bonding includes many types of interactions, including σ-bonding, π-bonding, metal-to-metal, agostic interactions, bent bonds, and two-electron three-center bonds.
