What does «Coma (Óptica)» mean in Spanish?
- This aberration and others described below affect images formed by rays coming from object points located outside the optical axis of the lens. The image deficiency increases for the outermost portions of the lens field. Coma aberration is due to the same cause as sphericity aberration, but differs from it in that the image of an object point is not a circle, but has the shape of a comet, the smallest and brightest portion of which corresponds to the central rays, while around it extends a zone of diffuse light due to rays that have passed through the lens at a shorter distance from its edges.
