What does «biocenosis» mean in Spanish?
- In ecology, it indicates the community of species of an ecosystem living in a given environment, or rather, in a given biotope, i.e., an area in which the physical-chemical and environmental conditions are constant. The biotope, because of its characteristics, can be defined as the fundamental unit of the environment. Therefore, the ecosystem consists of biocenosis and biotope. Less commonly used is the term biota to describe the totality of plant and animal life that characterizes a given region or area (e.g., the European biota). The Earth's biota, as a whole, occupies the space called the biosphere. Other names for biocenosis: biotic community, biological community, ecological community or simply community.
