What does «bifrost» mean in Spanish?
- In Norse mythology, a bridge between the earth (Midgard) and the sky (Asgard), generally associated with the rainbow, which the gods cross every day to the mansion of the Fates or Norns. The guardian of the bridge was Heimdall, god of light and sentinel of Asgard. The bridge is documented as "Bilröst" in the Poetic Edda; compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and as "Bifröst" in the Prose Edda; written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson, and in skeleton poetry. Both the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda alternately refer to the bridge as Ásbrú. According to the Prose Edda, the bridge ends in the sky at Himinbjörg, the residence of the god Heimdall, who protects it from the jötnar. The destruction of the bridge during Ragnarök by Muspell's forces is foreseen. Scholars have proposed that the bridge may have originally represented the Milky Way and have noted parallels between the bridge and another bridge in Norse mythology, Gjallarbrú.
