What does «azabache» mean in Spanish?
- A variety of hard and compact lignite, ebony black in color. It blackens when fossilized and impregnated with bituminous substances. It burns with fuliginous flame, presents conchoidal fracture, can be easily cut and allows a beautiful polishing. Some specimens, examined under the microscope in thin layers, show the structure of fossil wood.
