- An individual of a biblical people of Mesopotamia, descendant of Amon. The Ammonites were a Semitic tribe inhabiting the strip between the Syrian Desert and the Jordan River, and between the Jabbok and Arnon rivers, in present-day Jordan.
- Spiral-shaped fossil shell belonging to an ancient mollusk now extinct. Some coincide in shape with the shape of the Nautilus snail. Some ammonites reached more than one meter in length. Ammonites appeared about 240 million years ago and became extinct along with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. They are among the most abundant fossils.
