What does «visitación» mean in Spanish?
- Action of visiting; visit.
- The one made by the Virgin Mary, already pregnant with Jesus, to her cousin Elizabeth, who was also pregnant with John the Baptist. This is recounted in the Gospel of Luke (1, 39-56). It is also the name of the liturgical feast that celebrates this biblical event. It is celebrated on May 31 in Western Christianity (July 2 in the calendars of the period 1263-1969, and in the modern regional calendar of some countries whose bishops' conferences wanted to keep the original date, especially Germany and Slovakia) and on March 30 in Eastern Christianity.
Examples of use in Spanish: "celebrar la Visitación".
