What does «tunjo» mean in Spanish?
- Gold object found in Indian graves and manufactured by them. Tunjos are generally small anthropomorphic or zoomorphic figures made by the Muisca (or Chibchas), an indigenous people of probably Central American origin, as part of their art. Tunjos are mostly made of gold or tumbaga, an alloy of gold, silver and copper. They were used as offerings to communicate with their gods and ask for favors.
