What does «tiquisque» mean in Spanish?
- Tiquisque or tiquizque is a plant of the Araceae family, with large, thick, triangular and tapering leaves, and rhizome edible for both animals and humans. It is a plant native to Tropical America, possibly from the West Indies. It is distributed from Peru to Mexico. It belongs to the Araceae family, genus Xanthosoma. There are several species, although the most important from the economic point of view are Xanthosoma sagittifolium and Xanthosoma violaceum. Also known as white tiquisque or white malanga, and purple tiquisque or Malanga lila, respectively. In Panama it is called otoe, it is also known as mafafa in Mexico, Colombia and Panama.
