What does «siringuero» mean in Spanish?
- A laborer who makes incisions in the syringas to collect the latex or rubber. The syringas are trees of the euphorbiaceae family, up to 40 m high, from whose trunk a milky juice can be extracted that produces the elastic rubber. The work of the syringuero is usually hard because it is done in the middle of the jungle, walking long distances and is poorly paid.
♦ Used in: Bolivia - Bird of the Bolivian jungle, also called siringuero gritón, pija, piha gritona or cricrió. It is a species of blackbird that pecks at the trunk of the siringuero tree. It has a song similar to a high-pitched whistle. It is distributed from Colombia to eastern Peru, northern Bolivia and Amazonian Brazil. Its scientific name is Lipaugus vociferans.
