What does «sexenio» mean in Spanish?
- A space of time of six years. The previous grouping of years is the lustrum or quinquennium and the following is the septennium.

- Economic increase of one salary or wage corresponding to every six years of active service.

- (Sexenio Democrático o Revolucionario) Historical period in Spain from the triumph of the revolution of September 1868 to the pronunciamiento of December 1874. This was followed by the period known as the Restoration.
- (Sexenio de Morella) Festivity celebrated every six years in honor of the Virgin of Vallivana that is celebrated in Morella (prov. of Castellón, Spain). It has taken place on the third Sunday of August since 1678.
- (Sexenio de Investigación) Evaluation to which a university graduate voluntarily offers himself/herself, which accredits having reached minimum thresholds of scientific quality. It also allows access to an economic complement. It was created with the aim of increasing scientific production in Spain.
