What does «serna» mean in Spanish?
- Portion of arable land, especially if it is rainfed (that in which irrigation is provided naturally by rainfall, without human intervention).
Examples of use in Spanish: "la serna recientemente arada".
- Ancient unit of measurement of the capacity of a plot of land. It was generally equivalent to the amount that could be cultivated by a cultivator of other people's land.
- In history, a day's wage or day's work paid by a vassal to his lord.
- (sernas del Rey) Service that was rendered to the king by cultivating his lands or helping him to harvest the fruit instead of giving him grain, meat and wine directly. This service was also known as hacendera.
