What does «refutabilidad» mean in Spanish?
- Criterion formulated by the contemporary philosopher Karl Popper to separate the sphere of controllable theories, which belongs to science, from that of uncontrollable theories, which Popper himself identified with metaphysics. It is also known as falsifiability. Refutability is the ability of a theory or hypothesis to be subjected to potential tests that contradict it. The scientific method has this criterion as one of its two pillars, the other being reproducibility.
