What does «precordillera» mean in Spanish?
- Name given to the Andean sierras that are east of the mountain range. It is the transition zone between the plains and the mountains and extends from north to south parallel to the Andes. Some places usually called precordillera are the mountains between the Sierras de Córdoba and the main chain of the Andes in Argentina. The term is also used throughout Chile from north to south as a morphological unit located just between the Andes and the Intermediate Depression.
