What does «modelo de prescindencia» mean in Spanish?
- An ancient way of interpreting disabilities in human beings, where being born with or possessing a disability was considered a curse or divine punishment and, therefore, people were discarded or not assisted because they were not useful to society. This way of thinking about disabilities was common in the ancient societies of Greece and Rome, where the disabled were excluded from society through eugenic or, especially in the Middle Ages, marginalization policies. Among eugenic practices, infanticide was the most common in antiquity.
