What does «metro» mean in Spanish?
- Verse, in relation to the peculiar measure that corresponds to each kind of verse.
- Unit of longitude, the basis of the decimal metric system. According to early calculations it was defined as the ten-millionth part of the quadrant of the Earth's meridian passing through Paris. Later measurements have shown that the first ones were inaccurate; therefore, it was better defined as the distance between two traces made on an iridiated platinum bar that is kept at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures in Paris. Currently, SI units define the meter in terms of the speed of light and the second, so that the meter is the length traveled by light in the reference medium of classical vacuum in the time interval 1/299 792 458 seconds.

- (metro cuadrado) Square of one meter of side.
- (metro cúbico) A cube whose edge is one meter.
