What does «inerrancia bíblica» mean in Spanish?
- Biblical inerrancy is the doctrinal position that holds that the Bible is inerrant and without imperfection. It is widely held by more conservative Christians, yet the Bible itself does not claim to be inerrant. Christian fundamentalists go much further and claim that the Bible is literally true, so key passages (such as the creation story) should not be treated as metaphors or inspirational stories. Supporters argue that the only way to hold that the Bible is the inspired word of God is to presume that it is inerrant, citing especially 2 Timothy 3:16, which, in the King James translation, reads "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." The consequence of the belief in inerrancy is the belief that the Bible can be trusted in all matters, and that the authors of the books of the Bible were divinely inspired by God.
