What does «hiato» mean in Spanish?
- Pronunciation of two contiguous vowels in different syllables. It is also known as adiptongo. In other words, it is a meeting of two vowels that cannot be pronounced as a continuum within the same syllable, thus separating the sounds into two distinct syllables. An intermediate letter "h" between vowels does not interrupt the hiatus. There are two types of hiatus: vowel and accentual.
