What does «gualle» mean in Spanish?
- A certain tree that can reach 50 m in height and 2 m in trunk diameter, with very heavy and hard wood that is used in construction, firewood and to make charcoal. Also known as pellín oak and coyan (from Mapudungun). Scientific name: Nothofagus obliqua. It is found in the temperate forests of Argentina and Chile. It is usually called hualle to these young trees, whose wood is soft and yellowish; and pellín when they are older and have its hard and reddish wood.
