- Science that has as its object the study of the functions of organic beings. It is the scientific study of normal function in living systems. A subdiscipline of biology, focusing on how organisms, organs and systems, organs, cells and biomolecules carry out the chemical or physical functions that develop in a living system. Physiology is divided into various fields such as: animal physiology (including that of humans), plant physiology, cell physiology, microbial physiology (see microbial metabolism), bacterial physiology, and viral physiology.
