What does «empalizada» mean in Spanish?
- Fence, fence, generally made of sticks or reeds embedded in the ground. It is used to delimit land.
Examples of use in Spanish: "la empalizada evita que el ganado se escape".
- Defensive fencing constructed of thick logs nailed to the ground, one next to the other, thus forming a firm structure. They were used to build a quick defense fence in small fortresses or fortifications. Very effective for attacks of short duration, although they were easily set on fire. The alternative was to erect stone defenses, if there was enough time and resources.
- (parénquima en empalizada) Plant tissue of the leaf, of very compact polygonal cells and generally below the epidermis. So called because it is made up of elongated cells arranged parallel to each other.
- (degeneración en empalizada) Degeneration of the peripheral retina characterized by an image resembling a white lattice with areas of hyperpigmentation around it.
