What does «diseño generativo» mean in Spanish?
- An iterative design process involving a program that generates a certain number of outputs that meet certain constraints, and a designer who refines the feasible region by changing the minimum and maximum values of an interval in which a program variable meets the set of constraints, in order to reduce or increase the number of outputs to choose from. The program does not need to be run on a machine such as a digital computer, it can be run by a human, for example with pencil and paper. The designer does not need to be a human, it can be a test program in a test environment or an artificial intelligence. The designer learns to refine the program (usually with algorithms) with each iteration as their design goals become better defined over time. The result can be images, sounds, architectural models, animation and more. It is therefore a fast method for exploring design possibilities that is used in a variety of design fields, such as art, architecture, communication design and product design.
