What does «concordancia (geología)» mean in Spanish?
- In geology, a type of formation characterized by a series of deposits that follow one another without interruption or significant change in the nature of the rock or fossils in the strata. Concordance implies uniform conditions of sedimentation that follow the normal sequence of geologic epoch. Discordant deposits occur when sedimentation processes are interrupted by a period of erosion. If a deposit of new rocks is deposited on a series of older rocks that are tilted and have undergone a process of erosion and transport, the deposit is called discordant and is characterized by a break in geologic time and by non-parallel planes.
