- Group of plants of the genus Argemone (Papaveraceae) distributed throughout the Americas also called cardosanto or Argemone mexicana. Native to the West Indies, reaching as far as Chile. It flowers from February to April and is propagated by its abundant amount of seeds. It is an annual plant that measures about 1 meter high, robust, thorny stem, glaucous, sessile leaves, glaucous with blue lines on the main veins. It is characterized by its corolla flowers with rough petals and sepals full of small spikes and capsular fruit.
