What does «Carta Negra» mean in Spanish?
- Name given by Ecuadorian liberals to the Fundamental Charter or Constitution of 1869 by which the conservative García Moreno (1821-75) annulled the old liberal Constitution. This charter was dictated by an assembly that met in Quito between May 19 and August 30, 1869 and had similar characteristics to the one that in 1843 drafted the Charter of Slavery.
